A scar is a mark left on the skin after a wound or injury has healed. Scars are a natural part of the healing process, however, we acknowledge that they can cause great distress especially when they are on the face. Most will fade although they never completely disappear. A scar can be a fine line or a pitted hole on the skin, or an abnormal overgrowth of tissue known as keloid scarring.
Many of the scars we see in the clinic are caused by skin conditions, such as acne and chickenpox. They can have a sunken or pitted appearance, often referred to as ice-pick scars. These deep scars can also develop as a result of an injury that causes a loss of underlying fat. While most scars are not usually painful, they may be itchy for a few months.
We offer a range of treatment options that focus on improving the tone, texture and feel of your skin. In doing this, we can often see visible benefits to the appearance of scarring. As well as using the latest in-clinic treatments, for example, peels and micro-needling, we also recommend homecare products that will also help your skin to heal.
